How To Baby Proof Your Nursery

Although you're given advice about how to protect your baby throughout your pregnancy it can never be enough information. Since your baby will be spending a large amount of time in the nursery it should be given extra attention to provide a safe environment.

Below is a quick checklist of things to baby proof in your nursery:

Bedding

New parents will often make the mistake of choosing the best looking, or even the most expensive bedding without giving primary importance to safety. When you place your baby to sleep make sure she's placed on their back and avoid bedding that is so thick it may cause suffocation. Another overlooked aspect of the crib is the wood panels that keep the baby in the crib. You want to gaps between the panels wide enough so the baby can't get it's head or limbs stuck between them.

Changing Table

You'll want to use a strong table with a lip or guardrail on the sides to prevent the baby from sliding off. It's also very important to have the supplies within arms reach so you won't have to leave the baby unattended while you find what you need.

Toys

It's very common to place a mobile over the crib but you'll want to remove it when the baby is standing or can reach out and grab the mobile. Also avoid placing large stuffed animals in the crib as it may cause suffocation if the baby becomes trapped and cannot turn.

Windows

It's recommended to avoid placing your crib near a window because of problems created by nearby window cords or blinds. It may also add additional health risks if you live in a cold weather environment and place the baby near a window.
