Are You Ready For Your First Baby?

When someone struggles with infertility and the inability to bring a child into this world, you often focus on the problem rather than the outcome. You can become so overwhelmed and consumed with your battle that you don't really examine if you're ready for your first baby.

Getting pregnant and giving birth is only the beginning of a very long journey, so it's important to make sure you're fully prepared for the added responsibilities and life style changes.

Career Versus Family

One of the primary reasons women delay having their first child is because of their interests in progressing their career and the family finances. On the surface it may seem very superficial, but many struggle with the prospect of raising a family without the needed funds to support them.

Are you ready for the next phase of your life? After giving birth it's very likely that any career interests will be put on hold for at least three years, unless your partner will be home full time. Because of the rising cost of child care, it often makes more financial sense for one parent to stay home with the child until their first years of school.

What If You Still Have Doubts?

You shouldn't feel any guilt with doubts about whether you're ready or not, because very few people are 100% ready. If you're still in the discussion phase, without making a firm decision to have your first child it's still very important to create an environment that will allow you to conceive.

Avoiding activities that have a negative effect on your reproductive system is always advised. It would be unfortunate to realize you want to have your first child at age 39, then realize your previous lifestyle has limited your ability to get pregnant at an advanced age.
