5 Myths About Infertility
Infertility Is A Female Problem
Several decades ago, before extensive research was completed, infertility was considered a female ailment. It's well documented that both the male and female conditions contribute to infertility making it important for both partners to receive treatment. A good percentage (10-20%) cannot be linked to either partner and is categorized as "unexplained infertility".
If I Wait Long Enough I'll Get Pregnant
Most causes of infertility are not because of odds or bad timing. There's usually a physical, environmental, or behavioral problem that needs to be addressed. Until the problem is identified and corrected, the likelihood of becoming pregnant will remain minimal.
"Normal" Couples Get Pregnant Easy
Couples who have problems with infertility, often begin to think of themselves as less than normal but it's an unfair and psychologically damaging label. The reality is that most couples do not get pregnant "easy". Every couple, including those who don't think they have infertility problems, have less than 30% chance of conceiving each month.
I'm Not Using The Right Position
There isn't a magic position. There are certain positions that are better suited for delivering the sperm to the egg, especially if there is a physical abnormality with the male.
My Marriage Will End Because Of Infertility
The divorce rate for couples with infertility is not significantly higher than those who have children. The determining factor for your relationship is the strength of your bond, and the support and understanding you're able to provide one another.
